It feels very personal, like someone is whispering it to you in the dark of the night as you shut your eyes to listen. I think what makes this book so strong is not the magical yet realistic plot, nor the characters, nor the seamless prose, but rather the fact that you can tell that Maggie poured so much of her heart into the story. The characters wants and desires are also incredibly strong, which makes you want to cheer for them even more. Although entirely different, they are such dominating characters that it's hard to decide who you love most- and also who to root for. The first person perspective really lets you dive into the characters, and I love how strong both Sean and Puck are. Yet, I couldn't help but think when I turned the last page of the Scorpio Races that it *might* be better. Like, I feel like I gave a piece of my soul to those books. Now if you know me, you know I *love* The Raven Cycle. HOLY MOLY never did I think I would find myself crying over a horse, yet here I am.

She is the owner of the Holbrooke Boardinghouse, and it’s the ladies in that house who form the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency. I wasn’t exactly certain where this last book was going to go, but once Eunice showed up in book one, “To Steal a Heart,” I realized she was going to have to have a fairly interesting backstory. I always turn in a book proposal to my editing team before I begin writing a new series. What inspired you to write To Disguise the Truth? Que the start of some very interesting chaos. Arthur Livingston shows up out of the blue, wanting to hire her agency to find a missing heiress. It revolves around Eunice Holbrooke, a mysterious lady who hides beneath widow’s weeks, and has secrets from her past she isn’t keen to divulge – until Mr. To Disguise the Truth is the third and final book in the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency series, but it may be read as a standalone. Named One of the Funniest Voices in Inspirational Romance by Booklist, Jen Turano is a USA Today Best-Selling Author, known for penning quirky historical romances set in the Gilded Age. The plot remains essentially true to the original, but here the story is narrated by Panchaali, born out of fire to avenge her father. Gods intervene, divine weapons waylay whole battalions, a fantastical palace inspires a war, yet Divakaruni manages to keep the story human and relevant, also about a woman, her marriage, her mother-in-law. Divakaruni ( Queen of Dreams, 2005, etc.) offers a quasi-feminist retelling of the great Hindu text known as the Mahabharata.Īmong the world’s longest epic poems and dated to the 5th century BCE, the Mahabharata traces the dynasty of the Pandava brothers, from the circumstances of their birth to the great war fought for the honor of Panchaali to their last days in search of spiritual peace. Teen readers will appreciate the wit and freshness of these smart-mouth renditions of a traditional story. ("Tastes just like chicken," scoffs his brother-in-law.) Book Description: A collection of variations on the story of a boastful miller and the daughter he claims can spin straw into gold. In one story, the miller's daughter is an obnoxious groupie pursuing the polite and gentle king in another, Rumpelstiltskin is female and in a third, the dwarf appears as a troll with a yen to eat human baby who sets up the whole scenario as an attempt to get his hands on a toothsome infant. Sticking closely to the spirit and setting of the original, she changes only one or two building blocks in the plot structure and comes up with some surprising results. The skeptical author sets out to remedy these flaws in six different imaginative retellings full of sassy humor that teens will relish. For instance, why was the dwarf was willing to accept the girl's ring as a bribe when he already knew how to spin unlimited quantities of gold? And why did he want a baby at all? Not to mention the very peculiar ending in which he stamps on the floor, catches his foot in a crack, and in a fit of rage tears himself in two. Why did the miller tell the king his daughter could spin straw into gold in the first place? The story of Rumpelstiltskin is full of holes, says young adult fantasy writer Vivian Vande Velde in the author's note to this delightful group of tales. Jay has really outdone himself with this one and I can only hope for more of this sexy, steamy, kinky brand of passion in the rest of the series.Īnd this book wasn’t just erotica! I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but like it or not the cover still plays a part in deciding whether you choose to read it. It's pretty rubbish and not really the image you might conjure up from the title. A case in point being the cover of Strange News From Another Star, first published in 1919 and republished in 1976 with an uninspiring silhouette of Hesse's profile superimposed over a quartet of pictures. And of course, seeing as how Hesse has been dead since 1962 he's got even less say in it now. In 1919, the same year Demian was published, seven of these stories appeared as a book entitled Mrchen. He was a master of great book titles Hermann Hesse, I mean just who wouldn't want to read a book called The Glass Bead Game, or Steppenwolf, or Narziss And Goldmund? And so too Strange News From Another Star? Sometimes the image on the covers of his books wouldn't be up to much but this would have been something out of the author's control and down to Penguin or whatever publishing house the book was from.
